Cheech & Chong Will Bring Weed Straight to Your Door

As the OG of celebrities and weed, it’s no surprise that Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong are legally in the game. Both have individual cannabis lines along with a joint (heh) venture. But that’s just the beginning.

On February 1 the stoner-comedy duo launched a new delivery service in California, Cheech & Chong’s Takeout, which promises that customers will receive their orders in one hour or less. And really, if you’re going to trust anyone with getting you your stuff, it’s a company branded with the two guys who drove around in a van made of weed.

“The most important aspect of any operation has to be the pedigree that it brings,” Tommy Chong, who also played a hippie store clerk in That 70’s Show during the early 00’s, told 48 Hills. “If you want a good legal firm, you check around to see who has the best reputation. If you want a good surgeon, you do the research and find the best doctor for the job. So when you’re dealing with cannabis, getting the pedigree that Cheech & Chong bring to the field is so valuable.”

What you’ll get

Cheech & Chong’s Takeout offers everything from flower to extracts, both from their own lines as well as brands that they’ve personally approved. Promised unique experiences could even include a delivery by the duo themselves.

Chong says it’s a natural progression for the duo to start a delivery service rather than, say, a shop, especially now.

“We didn’t want to just open up a store like MedMen, making it look more than it is. A lot of people used Willie Nelson or Bob Marley’s names. But they’re just musicians that get high,” he said. “So it’s not by accident or by greed that we’re in the position that we’re in, and now, with everyone at home during the pandemic, our decision to do the delivery service was so natural. It’s of the time.”

Cannabis delivery still on the rise

Cannabis delivery services were deemed “essential” when the pandemic hit, giving companies a huge boost in sales especially around big urban centers like San Francisco and Los Angeles. And they’re not going anywhere.

According to the Los Angeles Business Journal, San Francisco-based Eaze Technologies Inc., one of the largest cannabis e-commerce companies in the U.S., saw orders spike at least 60% in those early days of stay-at-home orders in 2020. Other states have seen a rise in delivery options both during and after the height of the pandemic.

The combination of technology, i.e. Apple allowing cannabis delivery apps in its App store, the continued push for legalization for individual states and the federal level, the lowering of stigma around cannabis use plus rising demand means sales are expected to soar over the next few years. Businesses within the cannabis orbit, especially delivery services, will go along with it.
